Since 2000s, several studies have been reporting an increase of alkaline species in atmospheric deposition worldwide. This study aims to evaluate and give a better understanding about atmospheric deposition chemistry collected in Lavras, a Brazilian city with rural background. Bulk atmospheric deposition samples were collected from March 2018 to February 2019 and major ionic species were quantified. The pH values ranged from 5.52 to 8.29, with an average of 5.92 and most deposition samples (~?94%) were alkaline (pH?&gt;?5.60). For the whole sampling campaign, the ions profile in volume weighted mean (VWM) was described as follows Ca2+ (35.02) &gt; NH4+ (11.26) &gt; Cl- (11.19) &gt; Mg2+ (9.04) &gt; NO3- (8.57) &gt; Na+ (5.65) &gt; K+ (2.61) &gt; SO42- (2.43) &gt; H+ (0.94) μmol L-1. We identified Ca2+ and NH4+ as the most predominant species accounting for 53% of the total ionic species distribution. In addition, all samples showed neutralization factor (NF) index greater than 1, with mean value of 6.4. Regarding regression analysis, acidity neutralization precursors such as calcium and ammonia accounted for 50% and 4%, respectively. In addition, samples alkaline pattern was mainly due to agricultural sources, including fertilizer production and application, and cement manufacturing inside the county air basin.While heavy metals (HMs) naturally occur in soil, anthropogenic activities can increase the level of these toxic elements. Conocarpus lancifolius Engl. (Combretaceae) was investigated as a potential phytoremediator of soils contaminated with HM containing crude oil. This study assessed the potential of C. lancifolius (CL), a locally available plant species in Kuwait, for resolving local issues of the HM-contaminated soils. The absorption, accumulation, and distribution of three toxic HMs (Cd, Ni, and Pb) and essential metals (Fe, Mg, and metalloid Se) were examined, and their role in plant toxicity and tolerance was evaluated. Conocarpus lancifolius plants were exposed to two different concentrations of single and mixed HMs for 30 days. The accumulation of HMs was determined in the roots, leaves, stems, and the soil using ICP/MS. Biomass, soil pH, proline and protein content, and bioaccumulation, extraction, and translocation factors were measured. The bioaccumulation, extraction, and transcription factors were all &gt;1, indicating CC is a hyperaccumulator of HM. The HM accumulation in CL was concentration-dependent and depended on whether the plants were exposed to individual or mixed HMs. The C.C leaves, stems, and roots showed a significant accumulation of antioxidant constituents, such as proline, protein, Fe, Mg, and Se. There was an insignificant increase in the soil pH, and a decrease in plant biomass and a significant increase in protein, and osmoprotective-proline as a result of the interaction of mixed heavy metals that are more toxic than single heavy metals. This study indicates that C. lancifolius is a good candidate for phytoremediation of multiple HM-contaminated soils. Further studies to establish the phyto-physiological effect of multiple heavy metals are warranted.Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) has been considered a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases by inducing an oxidative and inflammatory phenotype. Existing norms only report performance in younger adults, rendering them of limited utility for cognitive aging research because of well-documented differences in semantic memory and knowledge as a function of age. Specifically, older adults typically outperform younger adults in tasks assessing retrieval of information from the knowledge base. Here we present older adult performance on 421 general knowledge questions across a range of difficulty levels. Cued recall data, including data on the phenomenology of retrieval failures, and multiple-choice data are available. These norms will allow researchers to identify questions that are not likely to be known by older adult participants to examine learning or acquisition processes, or to select questions within a range of marginal accessibility, for example. Comparisons with young adult data from prior databases confirms previous findings of greater knowledge in older adults and indicates there is preservation of knowledge from early adulthood into older adulthood.
